I have an HP Pavilion with 4 GB DDR3 RAM, an Intel Core i5 CPU @ 1.6 GHz, 1 TB HDD and a 2 GB NVidia Geforce graphics card. I have tried the UniBeast method to install OS X Mavericks on it, but somehow unable to get past the boot screen (with the apple logo), where the machine restarts. Is this particular model compatible with Hackintosh?

Any help with getting the install going, and post-install tweaks will be very helpful...

Thanks in advance,
Jasper

Hard to tell without detailed specs. Please post detailed specs and update your profile/signature.

Hi thanks. The following are the specs from the HP India website:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4200U (1.6 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)
RAM: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L
Hard Disk: 1 TB 5400 rpm SATA
Display: 15.6"
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (2 GB DDR3 dedicated)

Does this help?

Regards,
Jasper

Anything?

The specs in my profile are valid as they are for the desktop machine that I use...

You should add your specs to your signature. After a while the post above will be lost and again no one will know what hardware you have. This is why we have profiles/signatures...

You should read this if you haven't: http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptop-compatibility/106791-laptop-compatibility.html

Some people are having trouble with Haswell systems rebooting early in kernel init. I see some being successful with HP, so maybe you won't run into that problem.

Thanks, Got it. I've updated the specs in the signature.

Reading through your post, I guess I do have an Intel Haswell-based laptop [i5-4200U CPU - https://hpshopping.in/HpOnlineStore...Pavilion_15-n012tx_Notebook_PC_(ENERGY_STAR)], and the installer does reboot straight after displaying the grey screen with the Apple logo. I've managed to install Ubuntu 13.10 on it, but it's a far cry from Mac OS X, and then the wi-fi is not working very well (cannot remain connected).

I am sure that with some perseverance, I will get OS X going with the right kexts etc. Just stumped because I can't get past that boot screen issue. I've tried all combinations of boot flags with the Chameleon bootloader, without success. Hopefully, you and the great guys on this forum will be able to help me through with this.

THanks,
Jasper

The only people that have moved past the instant reboot are those that have found a modified BIOS for their laptops. So it is something to do with power management moved into the kernel itself and locked CPU MSRs.

Where do I find a modified BIOS for my laptop? As far as I can tell, it's provided by Insyde...

You will have to use google. Note that flashing a modified BIOS is risky. You could brick your laptop.
