I've modified the Sonoma Installation Mini-Guide by adding the hyperlink as follows:

    [SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Correct I think XFX is probably the only one left. I recently purchased an XFX 6800 and 6650XT. Both work well.

I am not sure about the Asus ThunderboltEX 4, but the both @Elias64Fr and @caley13 were able to flash their ASRock Thunderbolt 4 AIC with very good results. Elias used a CH341A external programmer while Caley flashed it from NixOS (yes, no need for external flasher).

GC-Maple Ridge may work properly on a Z690 motherboard. We’ll just need to flash modified firmware. I was only able to test on Z390 Designare, and this system would not enter sleep.

Changes were made to ProvideCurrentCpuInfo kernel quirk in recent versions of OpenCore. It’s best to update to latest OC and check this again. BIOS F6 is okay.

Hello @fenky, Please try OpenCore 0.8.3 by following the mini-guide located here: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/gigabyte-z690-aero-g-i5-12600k-amd-rx-6800-xt.317179/post-2331213 Let's see if this makes any difference.

Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

Loading the Thunderbolt kernel module is not actually the issue. There is a problem with ASRock Thunderbolt 4 add-in-card. In the example below, I've installed the ASRock AIC into RP21 (PCH-lane slot) in my Gigabyte Z390 Designare, and also enabled on-board Titan Ridge. Running NixOS, we get...

Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

I forgot to reply yesterday — got distracted by my ASRock experimentation. Some questions: Is this card installed in Z690 ProArt? If so, is on-board Thunderbolt enabled or disabled? I would suggest disabling on-board Thunderbolt and doing a cold boot.

Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

Hi @Elias64Fr, On Designare Z390 this card was installed in RP21 (PCH-lane slot), but Linux encountered the same problem where /sys/bus/thunderbolt directory did not materialize. I then moved it to Asus Z690 (CPU-lane slot), where Linux encountered the same problem. I’ll try a couple more...

Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

To: Anyone with ASRock Thunderbolt 4 add-in-card Please post a close-up photo of the Thunderbolt controller chip as shown in my photo. The text on the chip is smeared, which leads me to wonder if this card was previously used, refurbished, or otherwise defective.

And here is macOS Sonoma, which detects the ASRock Thunderbolt 4 AIC, but no devices connect. I now believe that the card is defective. I'll try flashing @Elias64Fr's firmware to it and see what happens.

Thunderbolt 4, modified firmware, Full Thunderbolt Bus tree

Thunderbolt devices can be connected when doing either cold or warm boot. If Thunderbolt Local Node disappears, then I recommend disconnecting them during a cold boot, but this is not strictly necessary.
