Thanks Stork. I'll take a look at that case and some others to see if I can find something that works. That case looks really nice, just need to see what will fit in the entertainment unit and still allow for good airflow. Otherwise I guess I will swap everything out besides the SSDs/HDDs.

I build a HTPC (Home Theater PC) using one of my old P55M-UD2 systems, and it's still running. A case like the Silverstone GD06B, which looks like a faceless audio receiver, will fit nicely into your audio center. You can find newer cases (and, maybe, for less cost) that will take your components, but you'll have to have a small graphics card (like the ITX case type graphics cards) as this case won't take a large graphics card, IIRC.

If you decide you want to upgrade your components, I recommend a mATX motherboard with compatible memory and PSU, not to mention a graphics card that supports 4K HDTV. You will not be able to recycle your memory nor PSU. All the processors since Haswell require memory that's on the motherboard's Memory Support List and a PSU that is Haswell "ready" or "certified" or compatible with 4th/5th/6th generation processors. The reason is Haswell and newer processors have an idle voltage state that is lower than it's predecessors, causing older PSUs (like your Ivy Bridge PSU) to think the system is shutting down. Consequently, the PSU will move into it's shutdown mode.

Memory specifications require Haswell+ specifications, too. Thus, my recommendation to use memory on your new motherboard's Memory Support List (or QVL).

So, your choices are to a) use your Z77 system components with a HTPC like case and, maybe, a newer, smaller graphics card to support 4K screen resolution (HDMI 2.0 or DP1.4), or b) new system components with a graphics card that fits the case and has 4K display capability. I'd try your old components, first, as you know they work - you'll just need a new graphics card.

Good luck!

Are you using your HTPC (Home Theater PC) with any TV Tuners? Just thought id ask i like your Silverstone case btw :)
No, not now. I use to use an early SiliconDust's HDHomeRun, but now I just use it to store my CDs/DVDs. I stopped using the HDHomeRun when we moved to an area where I would need a outdoor antenna on a high tower. Now, for television shows, I just use the DirecTV DVR.

Thats cool Stork :) I'm using Windows Media Centre but i want a alternative for the card i use. I use this in the living room and bedroom for tv from the Satellite Dish https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FAPDVDS/?tag=tonymacx86-21

Stork, thanks a lot for the ideas above. I spent some time researching the Silverstone line and will be going with the GD09B. Looks like it should suit my needs and provide enough clearance for some of the better graphics cards out there. From reviews/other builds it looks like fitting all my SSDs/HDDs might be a little tight if I want to throw in an optical drive at the same time but I will probably hold off on adding that for now so should be fine. Just wanted to say thanks again and I will confirm back here if I can indeed fit all the components from this original Thunderbolt build into the GD09 case. Traveling out of country for the next 2 weeks but should have it up and running by mid-August.

Stork, just an update for you - i went with the GD09 and it is a great case. cable management very tricky but everything fits (other than a separate graphics card, which i am still researching - but i have no doubt a reasonable sized one will fit) and i'm going to throw in an extra intake and outtake fan (right now i have only two intake fans, one on each side). everything working well so far other than one of my HDDs not showing up. I managed to fit 4 in the case since i forgo an optical drive - 3HDDs and 1 SSD. Great case, and the asthetics are awesome, thanks for the recommendation!

You're welcome. I, too, have two fans on each side. One tip, open the case once a week and clean the fans and dust. I can't believe how much dust the HTPC collects verses my desktop systems. Since it's a small case, and, although the fans are quiet, they run all the time. So, heads up on cleaning the dust inside your case.

I have your Z77 build with 660Ti, I just got the GTX Giga 980Ti. Do you anticipate any problems? I havent installed yet.

A Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti?! Nice! You'll need to install the latest El Capitan Nvidia web drivers. Then, instead of rebooting, shut down, install the 980 Ti and startup. That should do it.

You can find the latest El Capitan Nvidia web drivers here > http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/n...cs-drivers-for-os-x-10-11-6-346-03-15.198033/

This is an old thread, but I have Yosemite installed. Do I still need the Elcapitan drivers? after installation, the monitor powers up, but I cant move the mouse and there is just a blank screen. Thanks
