Hello, finally got my El Capitan build running nicely on GA-P55M-UD2, a classic build here at Tonymacx86, and wanted to pass along some tips.

I recommend in general using the excellent Tonymacx86 guide found here:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...-el-capitan-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

HOWEVER-- I could not get Unibeast 6.0 to work. At boot up, I wouldn't have any USB functionality for mice or keyboard. Using the "Fix USB" option at boot crashed the system. Instead, I had to use the V6 installer found here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/307003-clover-os-x-el-capitan-usb/

When you run the V6 installer to build your USB INSTALLER, choose the LEGACY version.

When you boot from your USB, go to OPTIONS, then down to DSDT, then click on "USB FIX". This will enable you to use those devices and install EL CAPITAN. (Note: no attempt to make this permanent via CLOVER CONFIGURATOR ever worked, it would cause kernel panic at boot up).

After installation, I did not use the POST-INSTALL tools from that installer. Instead, I went back to using the tools at the TONYMACx86 El Capitan guide. Continue at Step 5, with installation of the EL CAPITAN POST INSTALL TOOLS.

After this step, use the files attached at the end of this post for a working CONFIG.PLIST and DSDT.AML, which will properly set you up for USB and AUDIO. To install these files you will need the EFI Mounter v2 application (located at Tonymacx86 in the Download menu > Download Index . Community Software).

NEXT:
Open the Security & Privacy Preference Pane in System Preferences.
Select the General Tab.
In the lower left corner, click on the padlock and type in your Admin username & password;
Click on the "Anywhere" radio button under "Allow applications and downloaded from:"
Close the System Preferences window.

Open the Terminal and enter

diskutil list

Note the drive diskxs1 designation for your El Capitan drive - mine was disk1s1 (USB installer probably will take disk0s1)

Mount your EFI drive partition using EFI Mounter v2 application, choosing the diskxs1 drive partion you found in the above step.

Replace the config.plist you find in the mounted EFI volume under EFI/CLOVER/ with the one I've attached here.
Place the dsdt.aml in the mounted EFI volume under EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/.

Now continue with the Tonymacx86 guide, using the CLOVER CONFIGURATOR, CLOVERALC110 script, etc., and you should be good to go.

It took a lot of work, with much thanks to the posters and moderators at these forums:

GOOD LUCK!

Hi! I'm trying to install el capitan this machine that had an old installation of Mac OS. With Unibeast 6.0 not got the boot of the installation. I tried the V6 installer, as you recommended, but only managed to boot settings when the installation is loading it freezes with an error.

I generated the usb pen drive with LEGACY version. I do not know what can this happening.
I have a XFX Geforce GTS 250 and Core i7 860 with the GA-P55M UD2
Many thanks for any help.

This image is my screen error.

Thanks for this guide! My Customac is still stuck on Mountain Lion and I've been dreading the upgrade since El came out.

I am thinking of buying a new 850 SSD drive for a fresh install - does anyone see any problems with that?

Also, is there a particular or minimal BIOS version I should upgrade the P55M to prior to attempting this?

Thanks, Jt

The BIOS hasn't been updated for years (2010). F11 is the latest for the GA-P55M-UD2 v1.0 and v1.1.

Lots of people like the Samsung drives. I have an older Crucial in mine.

I didn't have the USB problems reported here, but my main keyboard doesn't work in the BIOS (any version of Mac OS), so I brought out an older MS keyboard and that doesn't work in Clover (but the main keyboard does) - so I had both hooked up for awhile.

My big issues is getting to boot off my SSD as soon as possible and to disconnect the Unibest USB drive as quick as possible.

Hi I am new to El Capitan I haven't upgraded my OSX version for a long time.
Thank you for the guide. I have followed the guide and I was able to install the OS.
However I am unable to get Sound/USB/Graphics fully working.

I have the same board and I am using nvidia 9800gt graphics card.

What happens now is every time I boot, I have to enter in nv_disable=1 and add the fix USB.

I tried to use multibeast and for sound driver I used the ALC887/888b legacy, and inject nvidia settings and I also downloaded the web drivers.

I have also tried adding you dsdt and config using your method but nothing happened. Can you give a little bit more specific instructions on what to do after you have the installation?

@japandapan - I have the same problem you have. did you ever resolve this?

I have to fix USB and inject Nvidia every time I boot.

never mind ... all I had to do was reboot without the usb drive (installer) and choose HFS. Everything came up ok, including audio.

Only thing left is sleep doesn't work. on wakeup, it just reboots. any ideas?

Still haven't tried this upgrade yet, but glad to hear you had success, thanks for sharing your notes!!

I *never* got sleep to work on this mobo, and from what I've read over the years it's been a very common issue with this model and only a few were able to get it to work (if I read correctly) but no one seemed to know why or how exactly. Not terribly surprised, I'm content to chalk it up to one of the tradeoffs of running a very cost-effective customac, otherwise.

I'm pretty sure not even a real mini would have given me 6 years of tv/media/gaming pc awesomeness I've had with my P55 rig. huzzah!

Thanks for the post. I didn't have a dsdt or config.plist in EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched. So I just copied these in and still no audio. Im' thinking that I have an old kext from snow leopard that is causing a problem. My audio didn't work under snow leopard either. Any idea how to inspect that and clean that out?

Can you share how you got audio working on this board on el capitan? So far I can't get the audio device to work at all

Thanks!
