Ok Thanks everyone for your help, I have tried various BIOS setings but this is what I get now, it is showing errors but doesn't stop, it continues to OSX UI and lets me partition drive and try to install 10.6.3 reatail DVD but fails at 17 minutes if i customise install and un-tick all unwanted options, (or stops at 28 minutes if standard install) comes up with error MacOSX cannot be installed on this machine.

Help please, and please say i'm getting closer ;)

The "ioctl(_IOR, 'd',79,4) is unsupported" error was common back in the day with some DVRs and with some HDD's. What DVR are you using and what HDD are you trying to install on?
What SATA and USB ports do you have devices connected to?

I would try first switch ports - ODD on SATA0 and SSD on SATA1.
If that doesn't work, try with a HDD instead of the SSD.
If that doesn't work - google is your friend after the forum search - not sure if anyone ever came up with a definitive fix and I never had the problem, so can't say from personal experience.

Yeah tried that, still same same. This machine is going up for sale as parts very soon. This is taking so long to sort out. This is my first build and I have followed all the guides been very cautious. I am getting nowhere. Is it a bootloader problem and should I look elsewhere instead of using iBoot.

Ok so with the HDD I still get the same, I'm looking into maybe an issue in the BIOS as when I restore optimised defaults i get the boot mode selection to UEFI and Legacy would I be better off changing this to Legacy. I'm also thinking of disabling all SATA ports not used in the SATA configuration page. I just find it strange s no one else has had to do all this.

The boot options that I use are P0 for boot drive & P5 for LiteOn iHas124-4 DVD drive. Under 'Bios Features' VT-d should be disabled on non 'k' suffix i5 and i7 processors. My Haswell motherboard is an H87-HD3, using i5-4440 processor. I am starting to think that you have an error in your settings - so check carefully before saving and exiting.

OK this is where i'm at with the planned build

The Plan:-
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H
Processor: Intel Quad Core i7-4770K
Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 760
Solid State HD (OSx/Applications): Samsung EVO840 250gb
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 32gb
Storage Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 2Tb
Optical drive: LiteOn IHAS124-04 24xSATA
PSU: Corsair CXM500W modular
Case: Corsair Carbide 500R
Wireless: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 N900Display: Dell U2413 connnect via DVI
Keyboard: Apple
Mouse: Dell

Installed so far:-
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H87-D3H
Processor: Intel Quad Core i7-4770K
SATA 0: Solid State HD (OSx/Applications): Samsung EVO840 250gb
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 16gb 2x8gb
SATA 5: Optical drive: LiteOn IHAS124-04 24xSATA
PSU: Corsair CXM500W modular
Case: Corsair Carbide 500R
Display: Dell U2413 connnect via DVI
Keyboard: Apple
Mouse: Dell
Also Done update on the BIOS to version F6 and optimised defaults then the following BIOS settings as per other recommendations in the Forums (see images)

The plan is to install using iBoot Haswell 1.0.1 burnt to CD not DVD as advised, then with Snow Leopard retail install disc 10.6.3 then upgrade to 10.6.8 and download my pre-purchased copy of Mountain Lion. I am following the guide and trying to install 10.6.3 I have iBoot Haswell 1.0.1 and am getting as far as swapping the discs over entering boot prompts:-
-v PCIRootUID=0
GraphicsEnabler=No
acpi=off

getting errors as images depict, then get to the actual install of 10.6.3 after single partitioning the SSD with Snow Leopard name. Then while it installs gets to 17 minutes remaining then returns error "Install Failed. OS X could not be installed on your computer" Please restart your computer.

I have also tried using the Western Digital HDD with partitions of 500Gb but got same result.
I reached my deadline for this so I'm going to buy a used mac-mini to try and get mountain lion downloaded maybe this will help my build.

Has anyone got any advice please.

See if this helps

remove the 32 GB ram and use only 16 GB in the first two slots of the motherboard. Check your User manual for info on what slots are the default locations. If you have spare 4GB dimms you can use this for install as well.

remove all optional hardware only items to use are the Motherboard Drives and PSU keyboard and mouse.

Going Bald has mentioned setting the DVD SATA to port 0 - this didn't help I see. Suggest redoing that to SATA port 5 (last port) on the intel Z87 chipset. Set the HDD or the SSD to ports 0 or 1. Again check manual.

Make sure your internal video is set per recommendations. You may also need to use the ncpi= switch as some users have needed to set this for installs to work. (google ncpi=)

As to the DVD Drive - not sure about that DVD Drive you have. If you have friends and family see if you can swap out your DVD drive for another unit or brand and try w that. The LiteOn brand is not one of my hackintosh recommended Units (that I would use) even though Google shows that its working for others. It could be that something is wrong enough for OSX to not work w it. The absolute last item is that the Snow Leopard DVD you have has something wrong with it. And if this is a current new version you purchased from APPLE see if they can send you a new one.

Also as you posted in another thread that your BIOS is version F6 - and as Adrian has said - something is not set correctly in the settings of the BIOS for this motherboard.
Or you have the one GB motherboard that will not install OSX SL.

Hi Toten
Yes that is pretty much where i'm at if you look under installed so far, I have 16Gb RAM installed only CPU and Motherboard, PSU and Case, Mouse Keyboard. I have tried to remove any conflicts.
The optical drive was the only one available in the UK at the time. If it comes down to the optical drive i'll have to buy another one.
I doubt it is the SNow Leopard install as I used it to update my MacBook but as it turns out the App Store won't let me download Mountain Lion as my macbook is 4. and not high enough spec to get the Mountain Lion download.
I think the best option for me is to get the mac-mini late 2009 MC238xx/A download mountain lion and use this way to see if it gets my Hackintosh up and running as going the SL way is proving a nightmare.
With this mac-mini i can burn to cd or dvd or USB. Also my macbook is on it's last legs and i need something to do my Graphic Design work so i need something quick now.

Any thoughts or problems you see with this idea.

PS sorry for the dual posting I was trying to broaden my audience in future i'll start a new post?
