G4 Cube Mod Question

Hello,

I am thinking of doing a G4 cube mod. I'm just wondering if I can take out the outer casing that is enclosed in the acrylic holder and put the cube in there alone. I just don't think it will fit with my current setup, and I personally don't like the look of the acrylic.
