Hello group!
I have had this laptop since 2015, and have updated it several times over the years. It initially had Sierra on it, but I have successfully updated it from Sierra to High Sierra to Mojave, and just recently to Catalina 10.15.17. Every feature works natively, with no hiccups whatsoever.
List of upgraded internal components:
RAM: Crucial DDR3 - 1867 MHz - 16GB
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01979WD4U/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
SSD: ZTC 512GB Armor 42mm M.2 NGFF 6G SSD
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z8BYOWG/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
2nd SSD (storage): Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077SF8KMG/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
Wireless: BCM94360NG 802.11ac Bluetooth 4.0 WiFi Card
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083YXS7VF/?tag=tonymacx86com-20
Instructions:
Make the Catalina USB with either terminal commands, or with the tools available here at TonyMac.
Terminal Command (once you have formatted the drive in Disk Utility using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with a GUID Partition Map):
sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/name of your USB drive here (no spaces)/Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app --nointeraction
Once you have the install USB prepared, use clover configurator to Mount the EFI, then open the partition and use the attached EFI folder.
That's it! I just thought I would share this with the community because this has been a rock solid performer of a laptop for me the last 5 years, and it is still going strong!
Email me with any questions!
