Constant application crashing

Safari, Disk utility, just about everything other than iTunes is crashing. (unexpectedly quits) if i try to view the report, that quits too.

I'm on 10.6.4 ... fresh install with a dozen or so apps installed.
I've tried repairing permissions, re-ran multibeast 2.0.1 ....

I have no idea what it could be, thinking about just starting fresh again ....

Any tips on how to diagnose?
