Why is the ALC 889a so sought after?

Please can someone let me know why the ALC 889a Audio chip is so sought after, and what the next best chip to have is.

The reason the 889a is sought after as it is still supported by Apple in 10.6.4.

For the 888, 888b and 889 you need to continue to use the AppleHDA driver from 10.6.2

Hi thanks for that, I'm trying to decide between the GA-H55M-UD2H and the GA-P55M-UD4;

The machine will more than likely be rolled down to a HTPC in a year or so which is why I was tempted to go for UD2H and I5-661 combo.
