can you play it on safari without silverlight installed? i never could. i can either use silverlight or use chrome to play it, but doesn't work "natively"

It asks you to instal Silvrlight even on my MacBook it does so I'm pretty certain it requires silver light.
 
Only if you have SIP fully enabled of course. I have mine in 10.11 folder just like all of my other kexts.

According to the Shiki FAQ SIP settings are irrelevant :

Unless it's been signed maybe but without proper Apple signing then it won't work. Maybe I'll try on a test drive on one of my other machines.
 
This was way back before Yosemite. I think it was back in Mavericks when I first tried Netflix.
well, i'll install this kext when i return from holidays and luckily i won't have to use silverlight ever again. otherwise, i can live with it.

I don't fancy having Silverlight neither.
