I have to say I'm totally shocked.

Looks like Apple without Jobs is starting to act as he left Apple.
Personally I think it will be Lion with some extra cool nice features, I don't think they have rewriten in from scratch

Well, like you, I am quite shocked to hear that Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion will be released so soon after Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. I wonder why Apple decides that Mountain Lion should be released so early?

They won't be selling the thumb, but hopefully users will still be able to download/create on their own as we do now

We can all dream about that but I don't think it will ever occur.
