[UPGRADED] ASUS Prime B550M-A AC — Ryzen 7 5700X — Radeon RX 6700XT

Successfully updated the G5 to Ventura 13.5.1 booting OpenCore 0.9.4. I've been neglecting this build since working on the 4700G and I haven't been gaming much recently. forgot how solid this is, never any drama when updating and a pleasure to use.

I'll get to editing my thread to reflect current hardware soon. I upgraded to Sonoma 14.0 Beta, as that's what I had lying around amongst the plasticine models on my desk!. The motherboard is now a ASUS Prime B550M-A AC paired with 32GB RAM and the Ryzen 7 5700X. Lets not forget the Sapphire Pulse RX580, a legend of a graphics card and now thanks to Sonoma it seems to have found an extra 8K in a Metal Bench!. Anyone else notice this?.

Yay!, updated to Sonoma 14.1, amongst the cables, plasticine models and cables I found my M1 Air with a copy of Sonoma 14. I immediately created a new USB and waited patiently as Sonoma installed on the G5, success!. Then I added the 'revpatch=cpuname, pci, sbvmm' boot arg to my EFI and got the incremental update to 14.1. Happy days and Game Mode!.

Ooof!, it didn’t make sense having the SN850X on the 520 motherboard because the B550 supports PCIe 4.0 X4. So I swapped the SN750 from the G5 and installed it on my sig build, then put the SN 850X on the ASUS Prime B550M-A.

Upgrade Complete!, the final piece a Sapphire Pulse 6700XT has been installed in the G5 and works amazingly well, 173K Metal GB6 score!, close to 3X more powerful than my RX580!. A quick Bush trip in Microsoft Flight Simulator allowed me to switch on Ultra graphics settings, I was immediately impressed with the level of detail on the plane and the clarity and smoothness of the landscape. in Sonoma DIRT4 and Dirt Rally look incredible, the detail in the surrounding scenery is just to much to take in, sending a 1995 Subaru down a greek mountain was great fun. But the most impressive thing to me was how responsive Sonoma felt, navigating through windows in Finder, switching through launchpad and desktop is instant. All this is possible thanks to NootRX, a kext to replace WEG in your EFI.

Successfully updated to 14.1.2 via the roughly 400MB incremental update found in System settings. To get that update I added revpatch=cpuname, pci, sbvmm to my boot-args in the EFI, I also disabled the BlueToolFixup.kext.

Another successful incremental update via system settings!. I’ve not experienced any issues since installing the 6700XT, its been an absolute joy especially when gaming. Ultra settings in Microsoft Flight Simulator, WRC, (Windows11pro) and DIRT Rally in macOS Sonoma, I haven’t built anything this powerful before so it’s been a real surprise. Stable Diffusion is also really quick, I remember thinking that 2 minutes was good for a 50 step 512x512 image on a Ryzen 4700G, how about 20 seconds on a 6700XT, phenomenal!.

"Beautiful Northern Lights Mate"

I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.
Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming.

You inspired me to see what SD could do with the Northern Lights!, I’ll work on a desktop picture later after work.
I find David Bowie makes a fascinating subject for SD, but I’ve only occasionally got the eyes right, he had one blue eye and one that appeared darker because of anisocoria.
