but what's also worrying me is that ur all saying that the older cards are worse ? As in the standard 560 Ti ? If this is the case, which GPU should I go for to couple with my 3570K ?

For me it crashes on application of certain effects. Sapphire Edge 2 and Magic Bullet Looks 2. Both of these use an external editor to tweak or load presets and this is usually where it checkboards and locks for me. Since I use both of these effects often, it is a problem for me.

I deactivated the HD4000 as it was causing frame rate issues. I put a Radeon 5870 in with the 660ti and that solved the issues with Magic Looks and Sapphire Edge. It also solved an issue where the Resolve 9 beta 2 wasn't finding a suitable GPU for acceleration. CUDA seems to work fine with the 660ti on Squeeze 8.5.

Maybe my setup is peculiar to these issues with the 660ti. Right now I would need more support via Apple or the community to get it to work 100% the way I would want (3 monitors and no issues with FCPX).

I submitted the issue with resolve to Blackmagic. To their credit they got back quickly to me. After looking at my System Profile (.spx file) and the capture logs from Resolve, it appears that Resolve sees the card as the 660, but misidentifies it as OpenCL. If it didn't misidentify it, they think it would probably work.

My new EVGA 660Ti is causing me problems. Whenever i try to render an effect in FCPX, the system freezes. I have to manually reboot by holding down the power button. When i look in the logs, i see a bunch of error messages:

There's also no graphics power management since there's no matching device ID in AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext/Contents/Info.plist. I was thinking of trying to use a copy of the entries for the GT650M that's in the new Macbooks but i don't think it'll work since they are different GPUS (GK107 vs GK104).
Code:
8/21/12 7:27:57.000 AM kernel[0]: [AGPM Controller] unknownPlatform
Anyone else having these issues? Can someone with a 660Ti try applying a video effect to a clip and rendering it. I used "Aged Paper".

Had same issues (see my posts in the 660ti article on front of website). Everytime I applied an effect in FCPX it checkboarded and froze. One temp cure was to reset window layout in FCPX before every use and before exiting.

I had to put a ATI 5870 in with the 660ti to get around it. Might be related to fact that OpenCL doesn't seem to be working correctly with 660ti.

Hopefully someone will fix.

Thanks,
-Alex-

OpenCL appears to be working after applying OpenCL patch. I verified by running LuxMark. Without OpenCL patch, LuxMark doesn't find any OpenGL graphic card device. After patch, it see the graphics card and i can run the test.

Anyone tried gaming with it on osx? Is gaming performance optimized with the 660 ti?

Does anybody know when the EVGA 660 TI FTW version would come out? Thanks.

I don't think it's more than a few weeks away.

Can you direct me to the OpenCL patch in Multibeast?
