Blue lightning isnt apple-like, i think this mod is great but the blue light is gay..
Why is the blue lighting happy?

BTW minihack, you did some great work here. :)

Awesome case.
Would not mind building one my self.
Where did you source all the parts from (that backplate, drive cage, paint, etc) ?

Wow, blast from the past to see this thread revived.

Basically the back plate was to my own design and laser cut. Fans were just what I had lying around (nothing special). The hot swap that is in that case I designed from scratch around a Corsair Obsidian hot swap back plate.

Still looks good though I think. I sold this case some months ago, but am in the process of making lots of variations on this as I am specialising in laser cutting now with my own machines.

Bear in mind that site rules do not permit advertising, but as the A team once famously said :"If you've got a problem and no one else can help, and if you can find them.....etc."

Yup still looks great...laser cut...very professional.
One of the reason this design caught my eye were the two rear fans.
I was looking to mount 240mm H100i radiator there - not sure if there's room to do that ?
I am sure the A-Team can make the room
Just have to find them ;)

Ha......
Yes, there is a way to mount the 240 radiator to the back and not block any ports.

I was think of mounting the rad with fans on the inside.
Is that possible?

(My motherboard is GA-Z77X-UP5-TH)

Hi,

Yes, it is definitely possible. I made a prototype backplate from acrylic to check the spacings a few months back specifically to work with the H100. There is (just) enough room to keep radiator and fans on the inside, but with that prototype the lowest PCI slot was partially blocked by the top of the radiator metalwork. So I would recommend that to avoid blocking the bottom PCI slot the whole rear IO (referenced to the bottom slot of the G5 as it is originally) be moved upwards by approximately 15mm......that of course means that you have to be very careful as you need to place the top slot of an ATX board as high up in the case as you can get it and still keeping it on the flat part of the rear casing, and you get the corsair h100 pipes effectively as low down as you can get them while also keeping the bottom fan completely on the flat part of the case. And of course the hard drives need to be moved.

For sure though it is do-able, the space is available. You certainly though must be very confident of your measurements and how you are bonding the case parts together because when you put two 120 fans in there you are losing a LOT of metal from the backplate so if it is not fixed right it can flex and any joins become exposed or loose - it's a bit like cutting the roof off a small saloon car to make a sports car.
I am going to be cutting a few plates in the new year for this to see how they work out. I think that the second time around it will be both easier and better.

minihack, thx for the advise.
Yes, I was wondering if the pci expansion cards would fit but looks like you have already thought about that.
Well, I certainly be interest in your second effort and will be looking out...well eagerly waiting:D

I just missed out on a G5 case on ebay....ah well there will be others by the time you have some plates

Thx in advance for keeping us updated.

Okay....it's not the easiest fit. The 120 frames need to be hard up against the G5 case, the other side of the frame then needs to be just on the edge of the I/O bracket and the stand offs (if I remember rightly) are about 6mm [edit: look at post at bottom of first page of this thread - 1cm standoffs onto my mobo tray plate] and are fixed onto a flat motherboard tray that is JB'd to the G5.

The I/O bracket I used was the Lian Li micro-ATX bracket. I still have a spare single 120mm backplate here that if you are interested in knowing more about you could PM me about. I won't be using it I reckon and you can either make a better job than me of bolting it to the back of the case (see my earlier anodised mod) or bonding it in the way I did with the later one.

And yes, I agree with Schubbe (the blue is a bit gay) ...that went a little while ago when i revised all the hotswap stuff.

Minihack, I was wondering if you could go into more detail about this hot swap tray, I find it the best looking on the forum. Did you custom cut it or have it laser cut at the shop you were talking about. Do you still have the CAD file, an answer on here or a PM would be greatly appreciated.
